HOLIDAYS ARE FOR ALMOST ANYONE

November 11th, 2008

Tis the seanon to be silly…at least that’s what most everyone seems to be. Whether it’s sitting under a dead tree in your PJs and eating candy out of your socks or singing traditional songs that nobody understands (can anyone explain the exact meaning of Auld Lang Syne to me?). Spending exorbitant sums of money you don’t have (God bless credit cards) on people you barely know or care about…except, of course, during the holidays. Sending out cards to everyone in your address book without checking first to see if they’re dead or alive…and saving some back to send to people you forgot, in case they send one to you. Madness prevails during this time of the year. Is it no wonder that many wish it were over before it’s barely begun. Humbug, you say? Not really. I prefer this madness to the boredom of the rest of the year. So buy a copy of “Reuben On Wry” from Amazon and the third season DVD of “Partridge Family” that is now in the stores…and give it to your favorite (or least favorite) person this Holiday Season. There are sillier things you can do. Have a “Happy” (or a Merry if you prefer)

COLORADO…NOT ALL IT SEEMS…BUT REWARDING!

August 20th, 2008

So Sandy and I packed up our spurs and saddled off to Colorado Springs. It was August, and we were in our best short-sleeved cowhides.  Big Mistake. Temps in Colorado ran between 46 and 70 degrees -  and that ain’t Celcius.  It rained almost the entire 3 days…but that didn’t matter much.   I was kept pretty busy. I was there to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the “Odyssey” radio show. I  have been with them the whole 20 years. We performed 3 shows for 1500 people per show.   Did 3 autograph sessions that ran 2 and a half hours each…and this old man came home exhausted. Between 4500 and 5000 people showed from 49 states plus Canada and New Zealand. It was an amazing spectacle. Odyssey is a product of “Focus On The Family” operated by astonishingly pleasant people  and the people I performed with were equally nice.  A great, if  wearying, experience. I hope it lasts another 20 years…but I know I won’t!

AFTERTHOUGHT

June 10th, 2008

The Reuben On Wry book, as you may know, was self published.  I really didn’t want anyone changing our ideas and we wanted to get in on the market before I died. Now we’ve come up with enough ideas and pictures for two or three more chapters, and we thought it would be nice if it were in hard cover; so we thought about opening it up to any publishers who might be interested in  making an updated version. I was just wondering what you - out there - think of that idea. Let us know.

The Blogger Goes West

May 22nd, 2008

So…only a few days away and we’re heading west. Vegas First, to see some old friends and go to the Bellagio to see”O”

The next day we fly to Los Angeles…Lunch at the Magic Castle with a whole heap of old friends and an hour or so signing my book.  Dinner with my daughter Selena and her boy friend Alex.

the next morning we go to the convention center for the Book Expo and more signing of the book…dinner with my agent Herb Tannen and his wife Lynn.

Sunday we catch a plane back to Florida and pick up dog Bob from the Spa. He will have had the most fun of all of us. Then straight to bed (if I can walk straight) and a long summer’s nap!  Well, not too long.  The next day I go to the good Doctor for his results…then it’s time to get ready to go to Miami.  Who says retirement is boring?  only if you live through it…and I understand no one ever does. I’ll get back to you in June, if my fingers still work.

MADDEN ON THE ROAD

March 26th, 2008

So the merry merry month of May  is a busy one. The 28th we fly to Vegas for one day and night. The 29th…on to Los Angeles and gather with some cronies. The 30th we will lunch at the Magic Castle and then sign some books for an hour or so there. On the 31st we will go to the L.A. convention center and sign books at the Book Expo from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.  June the first… this exhausted ex-actor will fly back home with his wife and go to bed. Enough excitement to last me until I go to my home town for a visit…whenever that will be. I’ll try to keep you informed.
